The initiative was set up by Marcia Luyten and Petra Stienen. They notice that there are many prejudices about Limburg, which are often outdated. “Little attention is paid to the periphery in the capital”, says Petra Stienen. “You see that very well this year with Trump in the US and Brexit in England. Marcia and I think it is good that Amsterdam gets to know the real Limburg one day.” The evening in Amsterdam is also the starting shot for the 150th anniversary of Limburg. On May 11 this year it will be exactly 150 years ago that Limburg was released from the German federation. The current status of Limburg was established in the Treaty of London, as a province of only the Netherlands.
