Things to do in Amsterdam

Things to do in Amsterdam

Amsterdam is one of the most exciting cities in Europe, with so much to do and see that it’s impossible to fit everything into one trip. Whether you’re interested in art, culture, history, or just having a good time, there’s something for everyone in Amsterdam.

One of the must-visit places in Amsterdam is the Van Gogh Museum. Here you can explore the life and work of one of the most famous artists of all time. The museum houses a huge collection of Van Gogh’s paintings, sketches, and letters, giving you an insight into his mind and artistic vision. Don’t miss the chance to see his iconic Sunflowers painting in person.

Another top attraction in Amsterdam is the Rijksmuseum. It’s one of the largest and most important museums in the world, housing a vast collection of Dutch art and history. The museum’s impressive collection includes works by Rembrandt, Vermeer, and many other famous Dutch painters. Make sure to see the Night Watch, the museum’s most famous painting.

One of the best ways to explore Amsterdam is by taking a canal tour. Amsterdam is famous for its picturesque canals, and taking a boat tour will give you a unique perspective on the city. You’ll see beautiful houses, bridges, and churches from the water, and learn about the history and culture of the city.

If you’re looking for a more local experience, head to the Jordaan neighborhood. This charming area is full of narrow streets, beautiful buildings, and boutique shops. You can wander around and explore the many cafes and restaurants, or just soak up the atmosphere.

For a more somber but important experience, visit the Anne Frank House. The museum is dedicated to the life and legacy of Anne Frank, the young girl who wrote a diary while hiding from the Nazis during World War II. The museum is located in the house where Anne Frank and her family hid for two years before they were discovered and deported.

Amsterdam is also famous for its liberal drug laws, and many tourists visit the city to try marijuana in one of the many coffee shops. While this might not be everyone’s cup of tea, it’s certainly an interesting experience. Just remember to be responsible and respectful while consuming any substances.

Another area that Amsterdam is famous for is the Red Light District. While it might not be for everyone, it’s certainly an eye-opening experience. You can see the infamous window prostitutes and explore the many sex shops and live sex shows. Just remember to be respectful and keep your wits about you while you’re there.

If you’re looking for something more wholesome, head to the Albert Cuyp Market. It’s the largest open-air market in Amsterdam and sells everything from fresh produce to clothing and souvenirs. You can sample some traditional Dutch snacks like stroopwafels or try some local cheeses.

One of the best ways to see Amsterdam is by bike. The city is famous for its bike culture, and cycling is a great way to get around and see the sights. You can rent a bike from one of the many rental shops and explore the city at your own pace.

Finally, for beer lovers, the Heineken Experience is a must-visit. The museum is located in the former Heineken brewery and offers a fun and interactive tour of the brewing process. You can learn about the history of the brewery and taste some fresh Heineken beer at the end of the tour.

In conclusion, Amsterdam is an exciting and vibrant city with a lot to offer. Whether you’re interested in art, culture, history, or just having a good time, there’s something for everyone in Amsterdam. So wait any longer, pack your bags and look for a hotel or hostel.

Travel to France from UK via Netherlands

Travel to France from UK via Netherlands

Many Britons are looking at other ways to travel to France after the French government has closed borders to the UK. One alternative way is travel to France via Netherlands or Belgium.

Britons react with anger and disbelief at the blocking of British holidaymakers. Many thousands of Britons see their winter holidays in ruins as a result. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has expressed his incomprehension about this and calls the selective measure ‘disproportionate’.

France has decided to close the borders for British tourists from next Saturday morning (red. 18 December).
This has led to a rush for alternative travel options such as by train or via other countries such as traveling by train via the Netherlands or Belgium.

The great British outcry is partly due to the fact that other European countries have relatively more infections than the United Kingdom. France explains the measure by the rapid increase in the number of omnicron infections in the UK.
The British are not happy to say the least that many of their holidays are ruined. They also have to find out whether they will get their money back.

Travel to the the Netherlands less strict

People who travel to the Netherlands must meet certain requirements, but fortunately it is not as strict as in Italy and Greece, where mandatory testing applies. Travelers from countries that fall under the Schengen area only need to show a corona certificate via the well-known CoronaCheck app. The UK does not fall under the Schengen area, separate rules apply to this.

Travelling from and returning to the UK

Check what you must do to travel abroad and return to England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland.

If you plan to pass through another country to return to the UK, check the travel advice for the country you’re transiting. If you will pass through a red list country, book your hotel quarantine package before travelling to the UK.

You are responsible for organising your own COVID-19 test, in line with UK government testing requirements. The Dutch Municipal Health Service (GGD) can only be used for testing if you have COVID-19 symptoms. See the Dutch Government’s website for more details of how and where to get tested for travel purposes. Always check that the type of test and the test result certificate meets the full testing requirements (e.g. name of the test provider and their contact details, if appropriate) for entry into either EnglandScotlandWales and Northern Ireland.

The Limburgse Leeuw in Amsterdam

The Limburgse Leeuw in Amsterdam

The initiative was set up by Marcia Luyten and Petra Stienen. They notice that there are many prejudices about Limburg, which are often outdated. “Little attention is paid to the periphery in the capital”, says Petra Stienen. “You see that very well this year with Trump in the US and Brexit in England. Marcia and I think it is good that Amsterdam gets to know the real Limburg one day.” The evening in Amsterdam is also the starting shot for the 150th anniversary of Limburg. On May 11 this year it will be exactly 150 years ago that Limburg was released from the German federation. The current status of Limburg was established in the Treaty of London, as a province of only the Netherlands.
